Artistes
have gone secular due to influence and pressure from the society and
negligence of some churches. Most artistes we see today have a story to
tell about their past experiences; the ups and downs they’ve been
through before they got to where they are now (the top of the
entertainment industry).
It
has come to my notice that most of these artistes have been down the
gospel road before they wounded up on the secular road, which they are
struggling to pass through at the moment.
Most
of them started from a young age in their homes or school churches but
found themselves falling into the hands of the world due to the words
they hear from random people in their lives; “you won’t make it in the
gospel industry”, or “people don’t listen to gospel music anymore”, or
“the gospel line doesn’t sell that much”, and all sorts. Words like
these bring discouragement to people and it takes a strong mind or a
strong-willed person to stand up and go for what he or she believes in.
To
have the qualities of a strong-willed person, you must be stable in
your faith and determination; do not wither in your faith. In other
words, do not be doubtful at any point in time because you can easily
lose faith in yourself as well as in God.
The
word of God is very important; it is so important that we have to hold
on to it every day of our lives. When I say “hold on to it”, I mean
study the word everyday so that it does not depart from you, your being,
or your heart. With this, you can overcome every obstacle in life; even
words of discouragement, doubtful thoughts, hurtful insults, and so on,
will not move you or be a problem for you to handle. Enough of the
preaching! All I’m saying is that as Nigerians, we need to stay focused
on our dreams and know what we want in life.
Now,
to the negligence of churches; most churches today have dispirited a
lot of young talented gospel artistes, making them turn their backs from
God and the church as a whole. An example of this is the case of a teen
group in a particular church that was publicly embarrassed due to the
dance presentation performed by the teenagers. After all the hard work
they put into the dance presentation, the teens were disappointed
because during their presentation, they were interrupted by one of the
workers of the church who went to turn off the power supply.
They
were later accused of being possessed with a snake spirit; so
hilarious!!! Scenarios like this discourage young talents to lose hope
in gospel entertainment andturn to the world to showcase their God-given talents.
This
is so sad because we are indirectly losing gospel talents to the
secular industry!!! This needs to be looked into!!! We need to encourage
these youths; starting from the family, churches, schools, and the
society as a whole; because they are the leaders of tomorrow.
This is why More Than Music and other gospel events are in
existence; to catch the young talents into the gospel world of
entertainment and keep them close and constantly inclined to the word of
God.
